Mrs. Stewart

Welcome to Saint Pius Fifth Grade!  The information below is to give you an overview of what to expect in fifth grade. For SPS students, it’s a big change.  They go from the primary wing to the middle school wing with lockers to store their books and belongings.  What an adventure for them!

Fifth graders switch for three classes. Math (Ms. Leonard), Science (Mrs. Kavanaugh), and Religion (Miss Yaldou).  I will be teaching the Social Studies and Language Arts (Reading, Spelling, and English).

Fifth graders will attend weekly Mass on Thursdays and  have the following specials:

       Monday  -  Art

       Tuesday  - Library

        Wednesday  -  Music and Spanish

        Thursday -  Computers

        Friday -  Gym

Fifth graders will be attending the Walled Lake Outdoors Science Camp in the Spring of 2010.  A parent meeting will be held to discuss costs and fundraising.

Students are expected to acquire 15 Accelerated Reader Book points per marking period.  Books should be at least 5.0 or receive the approval of Mrs. Perry or myself.

Reading and Spelling tests will be given weekly.

Social Studies tests will be given at the end of each chapter. Advance notice of test dates will be given so students may record them in the student planner.

Oral language/writing will be assigned daily to practice writing skills.

All student tests are to be signed by parent/parents and returned to me.

When your child is excited to celebrate his/her birthday with their classmates, please send enough individual snacks for class and teacher.  If you choose to do a pizza lunch, please send in advance notice to the teacher.

Classroom rules are kept very simple and embrace the idea of respect of self, others, church, and property, and responsibility for self and actions.

Student planners are to be completed daily and initialed by parent/parents.

Information regarding specific activities or assignments will be updated on my teacher blog or a parent letter home as needed.

Welcome to Saint Pius Fifth Grade!
